Mobile App UI/UX Design

Our mobile app UI/UX design team turns your idea into screens people find easy to use. We run user research, build wireframes and interactive prototypes, create a design system, and test with real users before a line of production code is written.

Who this service is for

Mobile app UI/UX design fits founders who need a prototype to test with users or show investors before committing to a build, companies with an app that people download but do not keep using, and teams whose developers are ready but have no design to work from. It also runs as the first phase of every app we build.

What's included

  • User research and interviews to ground design decisions
  • Wireframes that map every screen and flow
  • Interactive prototypes you can click through and test
  • A design system with reusable components and styles
  • Usability testing with real users
  • Handoff files and specs your developers can build from

What is not included

  • Brand identity and logo design, unless scoped separately
  • Marketing websites and print material
  • Development, which is quoted as its own phase

Anything on this list can still be quoted as a separate line, so nothing is hidden inside the main price.

How the engagement runs

  1. Research. We learn who the users are, what they do today and where the current product or process breaks, through interviews, analytics review and competitor analysis.
  2. Flows and wireframes. Every task the user must complete is mapped as a flow, then sketched as low-fidelity wireframes so structure is agreed before visual polish.
  3. Visual design and prototype. High-fidelity screens following platform conventions, linked into a clickable prototype you can put in front of users.
  4. Usability testing. Moderated sessions with representative users, a findings report and revisions to the screens that caused trouble.
  5. Design system and handover. Components, tokens and specifications packaged so developers can build without guesswork, plus a walkthrough with your engineering team.

Every step ends with something you can open and check: a document, a prototype or a build on your own phone. Read the full four-step process for how milestones and payments line up.

Deliverables and what you own

  • Research summary and personas
  • User flows and wireframes
  • High-fidelity screens for every state, including empty, loading and error states
  • A clickable prototype link
  • A design system file and exported assets
  • Usability test findings and the changes made in response

You own all of it on final payment. Nothing is licensed back to us and nothing is held on our accounts.

How we approach it

Good design starts with understanding your users. We learn who they are and what they are trying to do, then sketch flows and wireframes that keep the path short. We turn those into a clickable prototype so you can feel the app before it is built.

We test the prototype with people who match your audience, fix what confuses them, and package the result as a design system. That gives your app a consistent look and makes future screens quick to add.

Technology choices and when each fits

OptionFits whenLook elsewhere when
FigmaAlmost every project: collaborative editing, prototyping and developer handover in one toolRare cases where a client standardises on another tool
Platform-native patternsApps where users expect familiar navigation and controlsGames and entertainment apps that need a unique feel
Fully custom visual languageConsumer brands where the interface is part of the productInternal tools where speed and clarity matter more than flair
Design-only engagementTesting an idea, fundraising or briefing an in-house teamWhen you already know you will build with us, because bundling the phases avoids duplicate discovery

Tools we use

  • Figma for design and prototyping
  • Design tokens and component libraries
  • Accessibility checks against WCAG guidance
  • User flow and journey mapping
  • Usability test sessions and reports

What drives the cost

Most apps we build land between $5,000 and $25,000, and these drivers decide where yours sits in that range. Your quote is fixed-scope once they are known. See our price sheet or try the app cost calculator.

Cost driverWhy it matters
Number of screens and statesEach screen has several states (empty, loading, error, success) that all need design.
Research depthUser interviews and moderated testing take planning, recruiting and analysis time.
PlatformsDesigning for both iOS and Android conventions adds screens, even with a shared system.
Accessibility requirementsMeeting WCAG criteria for contrast, text scaling and screen readers adds review time but avoids costly rework later.
Custom illustration and motionBespoke artwork and animation are scoped separately from interface design.

Timelines and what moves them

  • Wireframes and clickable prototype. 2 to 4 weeks
  • Full design phase with research, testing and design system. 4 to 8 weeks

What shortens or extends these ranges:

  • Recruiting users for research and testing
  • The number of stakeholders who need to approve screens
  • Whether an existing brand or design system can be reused
  • Turnaround on feedback each week

Risks and how we handle them

  • Designing for stakeholders instead of users. Research and usability testing keep decisions tied to what real users do.
  • Designs that are expensive to build. Our designers work alongside engineers, so every screen is checked for build cost before it is finalised.
  • Accessibility found late. Contrast, text scaling and touch target checks happen during design, not after launch.

How to prepare before you ask for a quote

You do not need a specification. These five things are enough for us to scope accurately:

  • Any existing app, website, sketches or documents that show what you have today
  • Analytics or support tickets that reveal where users struggle
  • Brand guidelines, if you have them
  • A list of five to ten users you could introduce us to for research
  • The decision you need the prototype to support (funding, build go-ahead, user validation)

Why choose us

  • Designers who work hand in hand with our engineers
  • Prototypes that let you test before you commit budget
  • A reusable design system, not just static screens
  • You own all design files and source at handover

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes, in most cases. Designing and testing screens first is far cheaper than changing them in code, and it gives your developers a clear plan to build from.

You get wireframes, an interactive prototype, a design system and developer-ready specs. You can test the prototype with users and stakeholders before building.

Yes. We audit your current app, find where users struggle, and redesign the flows and screens that need it while keeping what already works.

Yes. We run usability sessions with people who match your audience and use what we learn to fix confusing parts before development.

Yes. Our designers and engineers work together, so your design carries through to a finished iOS, Android or cross-platform app.

Yes. A design-only engagement gives you a tested prototype and a design system any development team can build from. You own the files.

Yes, where the project allows it. We run moderated sessions with representative users, report what we saw, and revise the screens that caused trouble before anything is built.

Colour and type tokens, spacing rules, every reusable component with its states, icons and layout templates, documented so developers and future designers stay consistent.

Smaller screens, touch instead of pointer, one-handed use, interruptions and platform conventions on iOS and Android all change the decisions. A mobile designer plans for thumbs, notifications and poor signal from the start.
