App Privacy Policy Generator

An app privacy policy is the public page that tells people what personal information your app collects, why, who you share it with, and how they can see or delete it. Apple and Google require one for every app, and in Canada PIPEDA sets the rules for how a business handles that information. This free generator writes a plain-language template you can copy in about three minutes.

Template, not legal advice. The text is a starting point built from PIPEDA's principles and the Apple and Google store rules. Check that every line matches what your app really does, and have a lawyer review it before you publish, especially for health data, payments or children.

What the template covers

Each section of the generated policy maps to a published requirement. This is what it is built from:

How to publish your policy

  • Host it at a public web address, such as a privacy page on your website. Both stores ask for a URL, not a file.
  • Add the URL in App Store Connect and the Google Play Console, and link to it from inside the app, usually from the settings or account screen.
  • Match your store forms. Apple's App Privacy details and Google Play's Data safety form must agree with what the policy says.
  • Keep it current. Update it whenever you add a feature, an SDK or a new use of data, and change the effective date.

What this template does not do

It does not replace a lawyer. It is written for Canadian businesses and covers PIPEDA's principles and the store rules above. It does not fully cover Quebec's private-sector law, the GDPR in Europe, US state privacy laws, US children's privacy law (COPPA) or health privacy laws. If any of those apply to you, use the template as a draft and get advice.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Apple requires a privacy policy link for every app in App Store Connect and inside the app, and Google Play requires one in the Play Console and inside the app. In Canada, PIPEDA also requires businesses to be open about how they handle personal information.

Yes. The policy is generated in your browser and shown on screen with no sign-up. You only enter an email if you want a copy sent to you.

PIPEDA is built on ten fair information principles, including accountability, identifying purposes, consent, limiting collection and use, safeguards, openness, individual access and the right to challenge compliance. The template covers each with a plain-language section and points users to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Yes. Apple requires apps that support account creation to let people start account deletion inside the app. Google Play requires in-app deletion too, plus a web link where people can request deletion without the app.

You can start from it, but get legal advice. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner's position is that, in all but exceptional circumstances, consent for children under 13 must come from a parent or guardian, and both stores have extra rules for children's apps.
