How to build a mobile app (step by step)
Building an app is less about code and more about sequencing decisions well. Here's the path a senior team follows, from a napkin idea to a live product with users.
1. Validate the idea
Before any code, confirm there's a real problem and that people will use (and pay for) your solution. Talk to 10–15 potential users, and define the single core value.
2. Scope the MVP
Cut to the one workflow that proves the value. Write user stories, sketch the core screens, and decide platform(s).
3. Design
Wireframe the flow, then build a clean, system-based UI. Prototype the core loop and test it with a few users.
4. Build
Engineer in short iterations. Set up the backend, auth, payments and analytics. Ship to TestFlight / internal testing early and often.
5. Launch
Prepare store listings, screenshots and privacy labels. Submit, pass review, and plan a soft launch to catch issues before scaling.
6. Measure and improve
Instrument key events, watch activation and retention, and iterate. The first version is a starting point, not the finish line.
